The Challenge

Managing Complex Effluents

API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) manufacturing generates effluents with enormous Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) — sometimes exceeding 1,00,000 ppm — primarily driven by residual solvents.

Feeding this directly into an evaporator causes severe foaming, poor condensate quality (making it unfit for boiler reuse), and safety hazards due to volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Rototech addresses this with a two-step process.

Stripper Column Integration

Phase 1: Stripping & Recovery

The raw effluent is first passed through a thermal Stripper Column. Through fractional distillation, low-boiling solvents (Methanol, Ethanol, IPA, Acetone, Toluene) are vapourised, condensed, and recovered as a pure liquid product.

COD Drastic Reduction

Removing the solvents instantaneously drops the COD of the bottom effluent by 50% to 80%, transforming a hazardous stream into a manageable one.

Phase 2: Clean Evaporation

The stripped, solvent-free effluent is then fed to the MEE/MVR evaporator. Without the foaming organics, the evaporator runs smoothly, and the resulting condensate is crystal clear, pure water ready for cooling tower makeup.
